Widows Project
Project Overview
KCWEP is involved in amplifying the voice of widows in Kakamega County. The project aims to empower vulnerable women, widows, and disabled persons to realize their full potential, worth, and strength through empowerment and advocacy activities.
Challenges Addressed
Women and disabled persons face vulnerability to poverty, economic instability, GBV, discrimination, and denied access to health services and land rights. These issues are contextual but also indicative of the widespread situation in western Kenya.
Project Goals
KCWEP advocates for the primary prevention of violence, discrimination, and negligence against women, widows, and disabled people. The project includes working with men and boys to change gender norms and the acceptability of violence, ensuring girls and women living with disabilities have access to quality health and other services and support.
Empowerment and Advocacy
The project empowers women to understand and claim their rights and mobilizes communities on ‘zero tolerance’ through legal literacy about international, national, and local laws and policies. KCWEP advocates for the rights of women in property ownership, especially land, to enable them to invest in farming for economic sustainability.
